Research Tools & Scientific Innovation

Effective restoration must be grounded in data.

Since 2020, REEF Scuba has conducted, planned, and organized hands-on, scientifically monitored restoration projects.

Our research focuses on applied, actionable marine science, including:

  • Coral reef restoration and nursery methods

  • Coral health, bleaching mitigation, and shading technologies

  • Coral spawning patterns and environmental predictors

  • AI for underwater species identification

  • Development of low-cost restoration tools for divers

Our team of marine scientists and dive professionals is advancing the field of ecosystem recovery, and helping more people initiate and take part in impactful reef restoration.

Coral Species AI

A cluster of brown coral with small, vibrant green fish swimming around it in a dark underwater setting, creating a lively and natural scene.

Currently testing the accuracy of version 1.0 to help you identify coral species with the latest AI.

Coral Spawning

We made the Indo-Pacific Coral Spawning Database easier to use. Find coral spawning events around you and print a report to supercharge your work. Expanding to more locations soon.

Coral Shading

Helping you decide when, for how long, and with what method to shade coral.

Our team has collaborated with researchers from Europe, Asia, and North America, including graduate students and scientists working on coral restoration and AI applications in marine biology.

We welcome collaborations with universities, research institutes, NGOs, tech companies, teachers and education programs.
